Sometimes the hardest question is not "Does God love everyone?" We already know the answer. The harder question is, "Does He still love me?"

That question can come quietly after a mistake we cannot forget, after a prayer that seems unanswered, or during a season when everyone around us seems to be moving forward while we feel stuck. We may know that Heavenly Father loves His children, yet there can be moments when that truth feels very far away.

Maybe you have wondered whether God is disappointed in you. Maybe you feel that your mistakes have created too much distance between you and Him. Or perhaps you simply do not understand why something painful has been allowed to happen in your life. In those moments, it can be difficult to recognize the love we believe is always there. 

When God's Love Feels Hard to Recognize

We often expect love to look a certain way. We expect an answer to a prayer, relief from a difficult situation, or a blessing we have been hoping for. So when those things do not happen, we may quietly ask, "If God loves me, why is this still happening?"

But God's love is not always shown by changing our circumstances. Sometimes His love is seen in the strength He gives us to face them. Sometimes it comes through another person, a quiet feeling of peace, a needed answer at the right moment, or the courage to keep moving when we feel tired.

Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai taught about the love of God and encouraged us to learn to recognize that love in our lives. His message reminds us that God's love is not distant or general. It is personal. He knows His children individually and invites us to seek greater awareness of how His love is already present in our lives.

Jesus Christ Shows Us How Much We Are Loved

If we ever doubt the depth of God's love, we can look to Jesus Christ.

The Savior came into mortality knowing that we would struggle. He knew we would make mistakes, experience pain, feel discouraged, and sometimes turn away. Yet He still chose to suffer for us, give His life for us, and make repentance possible for us.

He did not wait for us to become perfect before loving us.

The scriptures put it plainly:

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." — Romans 5:8

That matters when we are ashamed of ourselves. We may look at our past and think, "I have failed too many times." But the Atonement of Jesus Christ teaches us that our failures do not place us beyond His reach. Repentance is not a sign that God's love has disappeared. It is an invitation to experience that love more deeply as we turn back to Him.

What If You Feel Like God Loves Others More?

Sometimes the problem is not simply guilt. It is comparison.

You see someone else's prayer answered while you are still waiting. Someone gets married. Someone has children. Someone finds success. Someone seems to have the life you hoped for. Even when you are happy for them, a quiet question may appear in your heart: "Why not me?"

It can be tempting to think that blessings are proof of God's love and that waiting means we have somehow been overlooked. 

But God's love is not measured by who receives a blessing first. Another person's happiness does not mean there is less love available for you. Their life is not a measurement of your worth, and their timing is not a judgment on yours.

God knows the circumstances of each of His children in ways we cannot fully see. 

Sometimes We Need Help Seeing His Love 

Elder Tai encourages us to pray daily and ask Heavenly Father to help us recognize who needs to feel His love and what we can do to help them. That invitation also changes the way we think about God's love.

Instead of asking only, "God, where are You?" we can also ask, "What am I not seeing?"

Perhaps someone reaches out to you at exactly the moment you need it. Perhaps you receive strength to get through something you were certain you could not handle. Perhaps a scripture suddenly speaks directly to something you have been carrying. Perhaps the answer does not remove your problem but gives you enough peace to take the next step.

These moments can be easy to overlook because they do not always look like miracles. But God's love does not have to be dramatic to be real.

What If You Made a Mistake?

There may be something in your past that still makes you uncomfortable.

Maybe you hurt someone. Maybe you made a choice you wish you could undo. Maybe you have repeated the same mistake so many times that you are beginning to doubt whether you can really change.

Jesus Christ does not ask you to hide from Him because you are ashamed. He invites you to come closer.

The path of repentance is evidence that God wants us near Him. He does not simply forgive us and send us away. He teaches us, strengthens us, and helps us become different.

You are not required to fix yourself before coming to Christ. You come to Christ because you need Him.

Love Can Be Felt Through Other People 

God can also make His love known through people around us.

A friend may notice that something is wrong. A family member may call unexpectedly. Someone at Church may sit beside you when you would rather disappear. A person you barely know may say something that reaches you at exactly the right moment.

Elder Tai teaches that we can become part of this work by looking for people who need to feel God's love and acting on the impressions we receive.  

Sometimes the answer to someone's prayer is another person. And sometimes that person can be you.

You Are Still Loved

Maybe you feel close to Heavenly Father right now. Maybe you feel far from Him.

Maybe you are proud of the life you are living. Maybe you are carrying a mistake that nobody else knows about.

Maybe you are waiting for a blessing. Maybe you are simply trying to make it through a difficult season.

None of those things change this truth:

You are still loved.

Your worth does not depend on your achievements. It does not depend on how many prayers have been answered, how successful your life looks, or how many mistakes you have made.

You are a child of God.

Jesus Christ has already shown the depth of His love for you through His sacrifice.

So when you begin to wonder whether God still loves you, do not look only at what has not happened yet. Pause and look again at the ways He has carried you, strengthened you, taught you, and placed people in your path.

You may not understand everything He is doing.

You may not have the answer you have been praying for.

But you do not have to understand everything to know this:

You are still loved.
