The Help We All Need

Every person faces challenges in life.

Some struggle with guilt after making mistakes. Others carry grief after losing someone they love, battle illness, or feel overwhelmed by fear, disappointment, or loneliness. Family members, friends, doctors, and wise counselors can often comfort us, encourage us, and help us through difficult times.

But there are some needs that only Jesus Christ can fully meet. No one else can remove the burden of sin, overcome death, or heal our souls the way the Savior can. That is why His Atonement is central to Heavenly Father’s plan.

Because of the Fall of Adam and Eve, every person experiences physical death and spiritual separation from God. No amount of goodness, effort, or determination could overcome those barriers on our own.

Heavenly Father knew this from the beginning. In His perfect plan, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to accomplish what no one else could.

Love That Paid the Price

Jesus Christ willingly offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for all God’s children.

President Dallin H. Oaks taught that the Savior has done everything essential for our journey through mortality toward eternal life. Through His Atonement, He overcame the effects of sin and opened the way for us to return to our Heavenly Father.

One of the greatest blessings of the Atonement is the opportunity to repent. Because Jesus Christ took upon Himself the sins of the world, we do not have to remain trapped by our mistakes. As we sincerely repent, He forgives us, cleanses us, and helps us become better than we were before.

The Atonement reminds us that our failures do not have to define our future. Through Jesus Christ, every new day can become a new beginning.

Strength for the Days We Feel Weak

The Atonement is not only for the moments when we seek forgiveness.

Life brings burdens that have nothing to do with our own choices. We face disappointment, sickness, loneliness, fear, and sorrow. At times, we may wonder whether anyone truly understands what we are going through.

The Savior does.

The Book of Mormon teaches that Jesus Christ took upon Himself “pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind” so that He would know “how to succor his people according to their infirmities” (see Alma 7:11–12). Because He personally experienced the trials of mortality, He perfectly understands our pain and knows how to strengthen us.

Because of His Atonement, we can find peace in anxious moments, courage in difficult times, comfort in our sorrow, and strength to keep moving forward. We never have to carry life’s burdens alone.

Hope That Reaches Beyond the Grave

The blessings of the Atonement did not end in Gethsemane or on the cross.

On the third day, Jesus Christ rose from the tomb, overcoming death forever. Because He lives, every one of God’s children will also be resurrected.

President Oaks taught that the Resurrection changes the way we see mortality. It gives us hope during trials, comfort when loved ones pass away, and confidence that death is not the end of our story.

Because of Jesus Christ, death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life. His Resurrection gives us hope that we will live again and be reunited with those we love.

How Can I Receive the Blessings of the Atonement?

The Savior’s Atonement is available to everyone, but we receive its blessings as we choose to come unto Him.

We do this by exercising faith in Jesus Christ, sincerely repenting of our sins, praying for His help, studying His word, and striving to keep His commandments. As we continue to follow Him, His grace gives us strength to change, endure challenges, forgive others, and become more like Him.

Receiving the power of the Atonement is not a one-time experience. It is something we can seek every day. Each time we turn to the Savior with humility and faith, He offers forgiveness, peace, comfort, guidance, and the strength we need for whatever lies ahead.

Living in the Power of His Atonement

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is more than an event in history it is a gift that blesses us every day.

When we repent, He forgives us.

When we feel weak, He strengthens us.

When we grieve, He comforts us.

And when we look beyond this life, His Resurrection fills us with hope.

Everything the Savior did was motivated by His perfect love for us. Because of Him, no mistake is beyond His mercy, no burden is beyond His strength, and no faithful life is without hope.

As we turn to Jesus Christ each day through faith, repentance, prayer, and obedience, His Atonement becomes more than a doctrine we believe it becomes a source of strength, healing, and hope in our daily lives. Through Him, we can be forgiven, comforted, strengthened, and prepared to return to our Heavenly Father.
