The question may sound curious, even childish:\nDo plants, trees, or shrubs have a soul? But behind it all lies a profound need to understand our connection to all living things<\/strong> And, to the surprise of many, the scriptures and the teachings of the prophets answer with clarity\u2026 and beauty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything was created spiritually before existing on Earth<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Book of Moses we read an amazing truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, behold, I say unto you, these are the generations of heaven and earth, when they were created, in the day I, the Lord God, made heaven and earth; and every plant of the field before it existed in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew up.<\/strong> and every herb of the field before it grew up I, the Lord God, created spiritually all things of For I, the Lord God, created spiritually all things of which I have spoken, before they existed physically upon the face of the earth<\/strong>( Moses 3:4-5 )<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This doctrine teaches that all living things plants, animals, and human beings were first created in spirit<\/strong> We are not alone in this spiritual existence: everything that lives was designed by God with a divine purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does that mean a flower has a spirit?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to Orson Pratt, one of the early leaders of the Church, the answer is yes: even plants have a spirit<\/strong> Perhaps they don't reason or feel as we do, but they are part of the great divine plan Every leaf, every seed, every stem\u2026 was conceived by a loving Creator.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what about the Holy Spirit? Can it be felt in a plant?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Holy Ghost has a mission centered on the children of God: to comfort, testify, and guide. However the light of Christ another divine power is found in all things .<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctrine and Covenants 88 says that this light gives life to the sun, the moon, and yes, also to the natural creation.<\/strong> That's why we feel peace and connection when surrounded by nature<\/strong> It's not just a nice feeling; it's spiritual. It's a reminder that God is present\u2026 even in a petal or a seed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If plants have spirits, is it wrong to eat them?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a valid, and also a sensitive, question. Leaders like Joseph Smith and Brigham Young spoke using the earth's resources with moderation and respect<\/strong> The Prophet Joseph taught that animals should be killed only to preserve life, and Brigham Young advised reducing meat consumption. It's not about guilt, but about stewardship and gratitude .<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every living being will be resurrected<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that even animals and plants are included in<\/strong> the resurrection plan?\n Doctrine and Covenants 29 states that every living creature will be restored . That includes not only humans, but also animals, and according to some prophets, even plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A call to look at creation with different eyes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If plants have a spirit\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If trees reflect the light of Christ\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the natural world also awaits a resurrection\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

so our duty is not only to admire nature , but also to respect it, protect it, and learn from it .<\/strong> The next time you walk through a garden, you may not be alone. You are surrounded by life life that testifies to the Creator.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
