I have some questions that have been on my mind lately. I think Satan can hear my prayers when I pray aloud and that he will try to give me his "answer" or prevent me from receiving God's answer.

Is this assumption correct? Can Satan “hear” my prayers? Can he know my thoughts?

Answer

Satan cannot enter our minds or read our thoughts . From Doctrine and Covenants 6:16 we learn that “there is no one who knows [our] thoughts and the intents of [our] hearts except God.”

However, in Doctrine and Covenants 19:28 we are commanded to pray aloud:

“And I command you to pray vocally as well as in your heart; yes, before the world as well as in secret; both publicly and privately.”

Our ability to overcome the Adversary's influence does not consist in hiding from him what we are trying to do , but in limiting his power by living in such a way that we do not give him room to influence our thoughts or our actions.

In the Book of Mormon, Helaman taught his sons, Nephi and Lehi, the following:

“And now, remember, my children, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must set your foundation , that when the devil shall send forth his rushing winds, yea, his darts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and raging storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless anguish, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereof, if men build, they shall not fall.” -Helaman 5:12

Do not fear the adversary, fear only God. By remaining steadfast on the path the Lord has laid out, firmly rooted in Him Satan will have no power over us.
