There is a day coming that human history has never seen.

A day when war ends. When hatred is gone. When the Prince of Peace is not just worshipped from afar — but present, personally, on this earth.

That day is called the Millennium.

A millennium is a period of one thousand years. When we speak of “the Millennium,” we refer to the 1,000 years that will follow the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It is one of the most hope-filled promises in all of revealed scripture.

1. A Time of Righteousness and Peace

The Millennium will be a time of righteousness and peace on the earth.

Not just the quiet that comes when people are tired of fighting — but true, deep, lasting peace rooted in righteousness.

The Lord has revealed:

"And in that day the enmity of man, and the enmity of beasts, yea, the enmity of all flesh, shall cease from before my face." — Doctrine and Covenants 101:26

Every form of conflict between people, between nations, even in the natural world will come to an end.

The reason for this peace is clear. Satan — the great source of temptation, division, and darkness will be bound. He will have no place in the hearts of the children of men. For one thousand years, his influence will be silenced completely.

"[Satan shall be] bound, that he shall have no place in the hearts of the children of men." — Doctrine and Covenants 45:55

2. Who Will Be on the Earth

During the Millennium, all people on the earth will be good and just. This will not be a world of mixed hearts — only those who have lived righteously and chosen goodness will inherit this remarkable era.

However, not all of them will have received the fulness of the gospel. Many will be sincere and honourable people who simply did not have the opportunity to hear and embrace all that God has revealed. They will live alongside the Saints — good people on a journey toward greater truth.

3. The Work That Will Continue

One of the most beautiful truths about the Millennium is that it will not be a time of idle rest. Two great works will continue throughout those one thousand years — and both are about reaching every soul who has ever lived.

Missionary Work. Because many people on the earth will not yet have received the fulness of the gospel, missionary work will continue during the Millennium. The good news of Jesus Christ will keep going forward reaching, teaching, and inviting all who are ready to receive it.

Temple Work. Temples will continue to be built during the Millennium. The Saints will receive ordinances on behalf of their kindred dead — the sacred work of connecting families across generations and across the veil of death.

Guided by revelation, the Saints will prepare records of their ancestors all the way back to Adam and Eve. No soul will be forgotten. Every person who ever lived will have the opportunity to receive the ordinances of salvation.

4. The End of the Millennium

Complete righteousness and peace will continue throughout the entire one thousand years. But at the end of the Millennium, scripture reveals one final conflict.

Satan will be loosed for a little season allowed to gather his armies one last time. He will rise against the hosts of heaven, led by Michael, who is Adam. But the battle will be final.

"Satan shall be loosed for a little season, that he may gather together his armies." — Doctrine and Covenants 88:111

Satan and his followers will be defeated completely and cast out forever never again to deceive, tempt, or destroy. Evil will not merely be pushed back. It will be gone, permanently, for eternity.

Conclusion: Why This Matters Today

The Millennium is God's answer to every prayer ever offered for peace. It is the destination that every covenant, every act of service, every temple ordinance is moving toward.

The work we do today sharing the gospel, building temples, gathering family records is preparation for that glorious era.

We are not waiting passively for the Millennium. We are building it one family, one ordinance, one soul at a time.

The promise is sure.

Christ will reign personally upon the earth.

Peace will come.

And the work of salvation for the living and the dead will be completed.
