Latter-day Saint Missionaries

The first time I attended a meeting of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was thanks to my cousin, when I was 14 years old . I remember really enjoying the experience, especially seeing the missionaries; they were very kind and, well, quite inspiring.
However, I wasn't baptized at that time. My parents preferred that I wait until I was more certain about making such an important decision.
Years passed, and at 18, I became a mother. I love my son deeply, but by the time he was three, I was already feeling exhausted.
Taking care of a child alone at such a young age was much harder than I imagined. One day, amidst all that exhaustion and anxiety , I stopped in my living room, looked up, and said with complete sincerity:
“God, I need help. I can’t take it anymore.”
Minutes later we left for the neighborhood park. As we were crossing the street, two missionaries approached me and asked if they could talk. That brief moment was the beginning of everything. Shortly afterward, I was baptized.
Since then, my life has completely changed. I found in the Church a community that accepts me just as I am. And most importantly, I found the gospel of Jesus Christ, which has transformed the way I live.
One of the most special moments of my faith journey has been portraying Jane Manning James at the Nauvoo Pageant. I have done so six times, and each time I step onto the stage, my testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith is strengthened. I know that he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
I also know, without a doubt, that we have a living prophet today. Knowing that fills me with confidence. In my home, I have a plate hanging on the wall with a verse from the Doctrine and Covenants that says:
“If ye are prepared ye shall not fear” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:30).
Many people ask me how I manage to stay so calm amidst everything that's happening in the world. And the answer is simple: I follow the prophet. That gives me security. That gives me peace.
I no longer live in fear. I live with hope, purpose, and joy.
