Paradise or spiritual prison: what are they?
Another important doctrine for Latter-day Saints is that the spirit world is divided into two main areas: paradise and spirit prison
Alma, in the Book of Mormon, taught that the righteous enter paradise, a state of joy , peace, and rest, where they can actively participate in the work of the Lord
In fact, President Joseph F. Smith had a vision of Jesus Christ visiting the righteous spirits after His crucifixion, commissioning them to spread the gospel. Thus, the organization of the Church continues in the spirit world, and priesthood holders continue fulfill their responsibilities.
On the other hand, spiritual prison is where those who have not yet accepted the gospel are found. But here's the key: these spirits still have their agency , which means they can choose between good and evil.
Therefore, if they choose to accept the gospel and the ordinances of salvation that we perform in the temple for them, they can come out of spiritual prison and enter paradise.
What happens to the little ones?
Since the plan of salvation is designed for our progress and development on Earth, what about those children who died at a very young age ? Do they also need this entire journey to eternity?
We Latter-day Saints believe that they go directly into God's loving embrace . President Joseph F. Smith taught that these spirits are immortal from the beginning and remain as if they had reached maturity.

With these teachings, we come to understand—as the prophet Young declared—that death is, in reality, one of life's greatest blessings and not an event we should fear.“
